Buckeye Institute CEO Robert Alt summits Mount Everest

Robert Alt, president and CEO of The Buckeye Institute, summited Mount Everest.

A central Ohio man has reached new heights that most people will never achieve.

He climbed Mount Everest.

Robert Alt, president and CEO of The Buckeye Institute, a conservative-leaning think tank in Columbus, reached the summit of the world's tallest mountain on May 15.

Lisa Gates, the institute's vice president of communications, confirmed the feat on May 22, and Alt published a post about the experience on his website, Profound Climbing, later that day.

Along with detailing the end of his journey and thanking his wife for her support, the post included a video of him reaching the summit of Mount Everest, which is 29,032 feet high.

In the post, Alt said he dedicated the experience to his late father, who made it to the Mount Everest Base Camp but not the summit.

This isn't where Alt's journey ends, however.

On Profound Climbing, Alt shared his plan to climb the Seven Summits of the World, or the tallest mountain on each of the seven continents.
